Char Aznable, often referred to as the "Red Comet," is a prominent character in the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise. Born Casval Rem Deikun, he is the son of Zeon Zum Deikun, a philosopher who advocated for the independence of space colonies from Earth.

Driven by revenge for his father's assassination, orchestrated by the Zabi family, Char infiltrated the Earth Federation Forces academy under the alias "Char Aznable." His exceptional piloting skills and tactical brilliance earned him the nickname "Red Comet" during the One Year War, a conflict between the Principality of Zeon and the Earth Federation.

Throughout the Gundam timeline, Char's allegiances shift, sometimes fighting against the Federation, sometimes cooperating with them, all while pursuing his own vision for humanity's future. He believes humanity must evolve to survive in space, a philosophy stemming from his father's teachings.

Char's iconic red mobile suit and his distinctive mask, worn in his early appearances, have made him one of the most recognizable and enduring figures in mecha anime. His rivalry with Amuro Ray, the protagonist of the original Mobile Suit Gundam, is a central theme throughout the series.
